The thesis began in the hubbubs of our Bangalore home. The elder one, Pia, started a boutique back in 2010, being the brand pioneer she always had an inclination and desire to make a contribution to fashion since childhood. The younger one Deeksh learnt and helped with the same - who later graduated from NIFT and specialised in pattern cutting from Central Saint Martins, London.

The procreators along with the boutique went on a transformative journey; they gradually shifted to customisation of Indian couture and pret on custom made basis, the two of them, the procreators, bonded well in terms of their process & chemistry, leading to the label “PhD” in 2019 - no doubt influenced by the familiar feeling of a highly organised lab run by sophistication, curiosity and innovation.

As a brand PhD has always been about: the perspectives of two variant personalities brought in together, their passions, their style, their experiences, what they’ve learned together over the years, and most importantly their attention to every single detail in a garment.

We believe in unconventional thinking rooted in conventional traditions - by going beyond simply traditional or simply western and instead sculpting a piece of clothing that is a blend of both. We achieve the same by creating fun romantic luxury wear with a futuristic touch brought about by the innovative silhouettes and surface embellishments we, as a brand, develop.
